Genesis
By Janet Cornwell
We are told
The universe is thinning,
All our treasured patterns
Driving away from each other
In determined centrifugality,
Spreading into the beyond
Until, ultimately, all will have moved
Too far apart for caring.
No! We cannot let that happen!
We must send out our thoughts,
Our love and our laughter,
Our songs, poems and stories,
The vibrancy of our lives and joys;
Broadcast the atoms of our dreams
To spin into nascent matter.
Fill the voids
With new stars, planets and peoples!
They will have their creation myths,
But they will never know
They came from a smile.
