"Laughter is a great medicine...."

Frivolity - being silly, lack of seriousness, something unnecessary

Humor – the quality of being amusing, comic, laughter

As a kid, being silly was often fun and involved laughter. Humor was a bit more thoughtful, such as telling a joke, making a pun or some spontaneous comment. In third grade I made a delicious discovery. I was spending the night at a friend’s house. We were eating dinner. I found I could make my friend laugh, and his sister as well as his parents. It was so fun. This did not happen at my house during dinner. I had a sense of humor! I enjoyed this and worked on it, especially with my friends.

As an adult I enjoyed going to comedy clubs. I was working as a waiter at the Buckhorn Exchange, and the Comedy Works was close. I could not catch the headliner, but they had a later show I could make. I would go a few times a month. Laughing was fun, relaxing and freeing somehow. I thought laughter is the true sacrament, and the comedians were the priests or saints of God. I told a couple of them my thoughts and they laughed their heads off. Comedians are not well known for their saintly or priest-like behavior. Laughter is a great medicine, it goes down so smoothly. Maybe comedians are also like doctors.
