Lord Have Mercy Part 2: Medication VS Meditation
I am going to start with a little background information for clarity. First, I want to state that I am not against medication. That said, I am astounded at the levels at which my doctors wanted to prescribe for me.
Here is my background information: My dad, four uncles, two aunts, myself, my sister and my niece are all Chiropractors. My sister-in-law and my eldest niece are medical doctors. My Dad helped to bring Acupuncture to the United Staes in the 1960s and has written three textbooks still in use today.
My dad was an anti-vaccination proponent. I grew up I the 1960s where it had been determined that the MMR shots given in the mid 60s did not work properly and did not provide immunity. I got the measles from classmates who had been vaccinated. I am okay with that because having had the measles confers lifetime immunity. I had chickenpox before there was a vaccine. But I also contracted the mumps.
I was pretty sick with the mumps. I had been down over a week with very swollen glands and fevers. This was while Dr. Eric Tao, a native of Taiwan and a very well versed Acupuncturist was living with us for nearly a year, as my dad and he were writing the textbooks for Acupuncture. Eric had been watching how sick I was and finally because he had not wanted to interfere, asked my dad if he would like Eric to treat me with acupuncture. My Dad had an epiphany and was like “Absolutely!” So I lay on our living room couch and Eric used about 26 needle in various spots for my treatment. Now if you go to receive acupuncture today, they use disposable needles. The needles Eric used on me were the ones he brought from Taiwan. They were ancient and had literally been used on thousands of Chinese people. That aside, I was completely back to normal within and hour following the treatment. At 8 years old I was sold on acupuncture. Thank you Eric!
My paternal grandmother was healed from scleroderma in the 1930’s by the family Chiropractor who treated her twice a day for months. She had been diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic and they told her of a chiropractor in Kansas City who had had great success treating her condition. She was healed. Thank you Mayo Brothers.
So, back to the present moment. I know there are many ways too treat disease and traditional medicine is only one of them. But, I am not exaggerating when I say I was offered some sort of medication with every doctor visit while undergoing radiation treatment. This was so foreign to me, because although I have medical doctors in my own family and I see medical doctors for check ups every year, I have never been inundated with offers of medication.
What I do know made all the difference in my experience was Translation® and MTR. I practice it every day. I am convinced this is why I have done so well with this treatment, having very few side effects as I have been on this journey. My oncology nurse practicer told me on my final visit with her that she had never seen anyone go through the chemo radiation treatment as I had, with only minor side effects. But, I know why. It has been the Mental Science tools I have used as a daily practice. My best tools.
I think I have a glimpse into why Thane held an interest in the practices of the Mormons. My family has been part of that movement up to the current day. My cousin in a Mormon bishop. Whatever shenanigans my ancestors, Joseph Smith and Brigham Young pulled (and there were quite a few) They unlocked something. They would have called it faith, but that is not the right word. They unlocked a mental belief in healing you can still see today. What was it Jesus wa quoted as saying? “By your faith you are healed.’
But it is not faith. You don’t have to “have faith that 2 + 2 = 4. Because faith does not play a part in this. The equation is based on mathematical principles. It is our use of Spiritual Principle, which is always so, that makes the difference.
I had the pleasure of knowing a number of Science of Mind ministers who knew and/or studied with Dr. Holmes. One of the most influential in my life was Dr David Walker, past president and Dean of Religious Science International. He was also a magnificent drag queen, but I digress.
David taught me something very important years ago which is in direct alignment with our teaching in The Prosperos. David told me the most important thing I needed to know as a Practitioner and Minister, was that the use of Principle has nothing to do with how we feel. It is not necessary to work up positive feelings to activate it. (This feeling positive is a common teaching in the newer SOM teachings and was not part of what Dr Holmes originally taught)
This is paramount to how we teach in The Prosperos. Principle does not depend on our feelings. 2 + 2 = 4 is not an emotional equation. There is tremendous beauty in recognizing that Principle does not care how you feel. 2 + 2 = 4, happy or sad. We do nothing. We only recognize Truth, we do not create it. This is what makes all the difference.
