STORY: Knowing Thyself is one of the foundational spiritual teachings of humanity. Buddha calls it watching. Jesus calls it witnessing. Gurdjieff calls it self observation. Typically we believe we are physical beings separate from the trees, bugs, birds, sidewalks, etc., and we believe we are separate from other people. We all have many beliefs about people and the world around us. When you believe something you place your trust in it. Consciousness is not a belief. Consciousness is simply the ability of being aware. To know the I AM in you - is to be aware of yourself as CONSCIOUSNESS. When I was 21 years old I read this statement by Gurdjieff: “Everyone lives in the basement of a 4 story home unaware of their higher powers. Everyone is asleep to who they are.” I said to myself: I don’t know about everyone - but I do know that I don’t know who I AM! I need to wake up and know who I AM! I was so eager to know more about this - that I went in search of a Gurdjieff teacher and thankfully I found a school based on the teachings of Gurdjieff and Carl Jung. The Prosperos School of Ontology’s purpose is to help people bear witness in an age of material greatness to the primacy of the spiritual. Knowing I AM is a lifelong practice.
