Poet's Corner

A haiku is a type of short-form poem that originated in Japan. Haiku poems are typically written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. They are unrhymed, but some poets may choose to rhyme the first and third lines for added challenge. Haiku poems often focus on nature or the seasons, and emphasize simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.)

CLOUDS                                                TREES

pink threads in blue sky                        hundreds of tree arms

clouds of vivid orange and red                reaching to catch air movement

paint box shows above                                wind makes trees stronger

WARM                                                THAW

Willie Cat seeks warmth                    dirty snow on trees

his body drops next to mine                the last dabs of winter ice

instantly asleep                                        waiting for spring thaw

DINNER                                               WINTER SKY

ears twitch, eyes widen                        miles of gray cotton

the opening of a can                            unraveled across the sky

the cat's meal arrives                            and pinned with sun beams

SAFE                                                    SLEEP

a blur of brown birds                            let the dark claim me

hovering in the dark sky                        under feather bed cover

while seeking safety                                not a speck of light

KNOW                                                   ANGER

What's truly trusted?                             What is mind fire?

Can it be truly questioned?                    Anger is conflagration.

Knowing then comes out .                        Meritous virtues destroyed.
